The McDowell Health Coalition is a non-profit organization in Marion, North Carolina. We are governed by a Board of Directors and have Action Teams that are open to all interested community members.
1. McDowell County Obesity, Physical Activity and Nutrition Action Team
+ Encourage walking, bicycling, and play through
improvements in the community infrastructure
+ Community campaigns that encourage healthy lifestyles
+ Advocate for nutrition education in the schools
+ Increase access to healthy, locally grown foods
2. McDowell County Substance Abuse Action Team
+ Reduce drinking and driving
+ Reduce underage drinking
+ Educate about the laws and consequences of drinking
and driving
+ Resource guide for substance abuse, mental health and
healthy lifestyle. Call 652-6811, for a free resource
guide.
3. McDowell County Teen Pregnancy Prevention Action Team.
+ Encourage parental involvement
+ Education for healthy relationships and sexual
responsibility
+ Present information regarding health outcomes and
statistics
4. Access to Care Action Team
+ Expand health care services
+ Reduce health disparities
+ Communicate health information to the public

· Reduce the rate of teen pregnancy in the county
